High quality data is important as it can lead to improvements in patient care and patient safety. Quality data plays a role in improving services and decision making, as well as being able to identify trends and patterns, draw comparisons, predict future events and outcomes, and evaluate services.

Why is this data important for us?
Improved data collection and reporting on these measures will drive a better understanding of local health inequalities in access to, experience of and outcomes from healthcare services, by informing the development of action plans to narrow the health inequalities gap.
NHS England have set an ambitious goal to deliver around 30% more elective activity by 2024/25 than before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Systems are asked to:
• Eliminate waits of over 65 weeks for elective care by March 2024 (except where patients choose to wait longer or in specific specialties)
• Develop plans that support an overall reduction in 52-week waits where possible, in line with ambition to eliminate them by March 2025, except where patients choose to wait longer or in specific specialities
Through collation of this data across the network, we can apply learning from successes and challenges to improve quality of care and equity in access of services for patients.
