2 INTEGRATED CARE BOARDS (ICBs)

Since April 1, 2026, NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) boundaries have been significantly restructured to reduce administrative costs. North West and Central London merged to form the single NHS West and North London ICB. Simultaneously, the former Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) and Hertfordshire and West Essex ICBs were dissolved to form the expanded Central East ICB and Essex ICB. ICBs are a statutory NHS organisation responsible for developing a plan for meeting the health needs of the population, managing the NHS budget and arranging for the provision of health services in the Integrated Care System area.
